Fort Bard: from history into the future

Contrasts. Stories from a World on the Edge

Fort Bard renews its collaboration with Agence France-Presse, one of the world’s most respected news agencies. Following the success of Time’s Up, which in 2024 explored the impact of climate change on our planet, the exhibition Contrasts. Stories from a World on the Edge once again aims to provoke thought and spark awareness about today’s world.

Held in the rooms of the Opera Mortai in the fortress from 8 March to 20 July, the exhibition presents 84 photographs that highlight the stark contrasts and inequalities shaping societies across the globe. From economic divides to war, from cultural traditions to the worlds of art and entertainment, as well as the climate emergency and the unstoppable rise of urbanisation –  these are just some of the themes explored in this exhibition. By juxtaposing different and distant realities, as well as internal contradictions within the same societies – from the Americas to Europe, from Asia to Africa – it offers a striking portrait of a world increasingly on the edge: our own.
