Fort Bard: from history into the future

From Earth to the man

The French photographer Yann Arthus-Bertrand and its amazing aircraft portraits devoted to the wide and disturbing changes in the environment of the planet are at the heart of the new major exhibition of the Forteress of Bard. From Earth to the Man is open from December 7th, 2012 to November 3rd, 2013 in the halls of Gunner. The exhibition aims to present the best artistic production of the photographer in an artistic and popular way. This is the first Italian retrospective dedicated to him.

THE EXHIBITION

THE EARTH VIEW FROM THE SKY
The exhibition presents over one hundred large-scale photographs that represent the best production of the project called “The earth seen from the sky – La Terre Vue du Ciel” led under the patronage of UNESCO and supported by Air France including the latest images taken in the past artist’s journey and fifteen photographs taken on site specific Valle d’Aosta.
HOME
Together with the photographs, which are accompanied by captions rich in content, there are also spectacular films made by Arthus-Bertrand, all shown in high definition on large screens. The film “Home” is proposed for the first time with the narrative voice of Isabella Rossellini. The film, made in 2009 on the occasion of the World Environment Day and carried out in collaboration with Luc Besson and François Henri Pinault, is meant to be a snapshot of the state of health of the planet and of the problems humanity has to face.
VU DU CIEL VAL D’AOSTE
The exhibition also features the new video “Vu du ciel Val d’Aoste”, an incredible journey on the most spectacular mountains of the Alps. The artist’s production is accompanied by the extraordinary, original music by Armand Amar, Israeli composer, author of numerous soundtracks for theatre, cinema and television. Armand Amar won the César Award in 2010 for best soundtrack for the film The Concert.
7 BILLION OTHERS
A section of the exposition is devoted to the project of the GoodPlanet Foundation chaired by Arthus-Bertrand, entitled “7 billion of Others” that refocuses attention from the Earth to the Man, collects dozens of interviews conducted in 84 countries reflecting life experiences, feelings and values, giving witness to the universality and individuality that characterize all human beings. It is an impressive, evocative and immersive installation which puts visitors in front of giant images depicting real witnesses of every race on the planet: from the Brazilian fisherman to the German artist, to the Afghan farmer. Everyone answered the same questions about their own fears, their dreams, their hopes for the future. The “7 billion of Others” was created by the GoodPlanet Foundation with the support of BNP Paribas.
