The third stage of the project L’Adieu des glaciers: photographic and scientific research, produced by Forte di Bard, which has been undertaking an iconographic and scientific journey through the glaciers of the main four-thousanders in the Valle d’Aosta since 2020, to tell the story of their transformations. The initiative entails an in-depth study of Monte Rosa, Monte Cervino, Gran Paradiso, and Monte Bianco over a period of four years, with one year devoted to each physical and cultural context in the Alpine region, thanks to the support of numerous bodies and institutions. After exploring the Monte Rosa group and Monte Cervino, the journey to discover the history and state of Italian glaciers continues in 2022, focussing entirely on Gran Paradiso in the year of the 100th anniversary of the National Park’s establishment.
The exhibition, held at the Forte di Bard from 9 July to 13 November, 2022, focuses on the glacial region between the valleys of Cogne, Valsavarenche, Valle di Rhêmes, and Valgrisenche. The project is curated by Enrico Peyrot, a photographer and historian of photography, and Michele Freppaz, a professor at the Department of Agricultural, Forestry, and Food Sciences at the University of Turin, who handles the scientific aspects.
