From December 7th, 2014 to May 10th, 2015 the Embrasures of Fortress of Bard will host Josef Koudelka – Vestiges 1991-2014. This is the first Italian exposition of the most impressive photographic project of one of the world most important masters of photography.
The project Vestiges committed more than twenty years from the great photographer , member of the Magnum Photos Agency, presents his photographic and artistic interpretation of some of the most important ruins of Roman and Greek culture, in an itinerary among nineteen countries, from Greece to Lebanon, Syria, Algeria, from Turkey to Italy and over two hundred locations bordering the Mediterranean Sea. A unique exploration with no previous in such symbol sites as the Delphi Temple, Zeus and Poseidon Temples in Greece, the Roman Forum, the Appian Way in Rome, the Sibyl Temple in Tivoli, the Apollo Temple in Turkey, the Petra’s Tomb in Jordan, Sabratha Ruins in Libya.
A work of art that is the result of much patience and perseverance. The artist, like the Romantic painters of the nineteenth century, cultivated a special fondness for the ruins, without celebrate its melancholic atmosphere, but in order to give back its authentic beauty. He wants to use art to reclaim a world that is getting out and we could lose. To transform the rubble in hope: this is the great and ambitious project that seeks to achieve Koudelka with his trip. A trip to the constant flux, enriched with new chapters.
Over sixty photographs on display in Forte di Bard, including 22 panoramic large pictures. A stage that combines the minimalist approach of the photographer and the style of his images, with the evocative sense of walkway through the ruins. Also on display the projection of about 350 shots on the set of Vestiges.
